Sudden death on campus

A Slippery Rock University student died unexpectedly on Monday morning.

Seth Weismantle, 18, was found dead in his dorm room in Building F. Weismantle was a first-year student from Conway and graduated from Freedom Area High School in 2018. No official cause of death has been released by university officials or campus police. Pennsylvania State Police are currently investigating the incident. There is no evidence of foul play associated with Seth’s passing.

University President Dr. William Behre released a statement on Monday morning offering his condolences for Seth’s family and friends.

“These will be hard days for many of us in remembering Seth and his passing,” Behre said. “The Weismantle family and his friends, particularly his classmates, will need our strength and prayers. It’s important for us to look out for each other and to be aware of support resources in our community.”

The SRU Student Counseling Center has extended hours this week for students who need assistance. The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is located in Rhoads Hall.

The Student Health Center is open 24/7 for any student who feels they need immediate care. The health center is also located within Rhoads Hall.

The national suicide prevention hotline number is 1-800-273-8255 and the Crisis Text Line is 741741, both available for use 24 hours a day.

In an Instagram post, friend and roommate Colt Slowinski announced the date and time for Seth’s viewing and funeral services. Services will take place on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. and on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Poland Funeral Home in Conway. Mass will also be held on Monday, October 8 at Saint Felix Church in Freedom, Pa. at 11 a.m., immediately to be followed by a burial service.
