On Friday, Oct. 19, the SRU PCMEA music club hosted their annual 2026 Halloween Monster Mash party in the ski lodge.
For those who may not know what this event is, it is an event that consists of: “a costume contest with prizes,” “free food,” “a campfire with s’mores” and “karaoke with a live band.”
In addition, this event is a yearly annual event open to all SRU students, and it is hosted by one of SRU’s music education organizations.
Paityn Armstrong, a junior music education major, discussed her insights as to how she thought the event went this year.
“I think this year’s Monster Mash event went really well. The karaoke singers and members of the band had a great time, and the dance floor was buzzing the whole night. Everyone was singing along, jumping and dancing, and the attendees showed up in some very spooky and creative costumes. We weren’t able to have the outdoor campfire and s’mores this year due to rain, but we still had a very fun and successful event regardless,” Armstrong said.
Throughout this event, there was a variety of genres sung by SRU students in karaoke, while other SRU students performed instrumentally alongside.
“The music that was sung and performed was a mixture of pop, rock, Motown, R&B and classic soul music”, Armstrong said. “Some of the most popular karaoke songs were ‘Forget you’ by Ceelo Green, ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ by Frakie Valli, ‘Locked Out of Heaven’ by Bruno Mars, ‘Holding out for a Hero’ by Bonnie Tyler and ‘Somebody to Love’ by Queen. They really got everyone dancing and singing along on the dance floor.”
Since this is an annual event, Armstrong is looking out for those who may be interested next year in attending to be on the lookout for information next fall.
