Slippery Rock University stages several plays and musicals every year. This year, one of these is “Sweat,” to be performed Oct. 23, 24, 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 25 at 2 p.m in the Stoner East Black Box Theater.
“Sweat” premiered on Broadway in 2017, and is set in Reading, Pa. in 2008. The play tells the story of factory workers struggling to keep their lives afloat, unaware of the financial difficulties they will face in the future.
Claire Elias, a cast member who plays Oscar in “Sweat,” discussed her experience with the show and the importance of being able to participate in opportunities like these.
“My experience with the show has been great! It’s a really important show, and an awesome first impression on the theater program here,” Elias said. “As a freshman, I really appreciate the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast and crew. Everyone’s so passionate and committed to this play, and it’s made the space electric.”
“Getting to start off my journey in the SRU theater department with the show has been such a blessing,” she continued. “I’m excited to see where else being an acting major takes me. This show is such a heavy emotional journey. I hope people love this show as much as we do.”
