Coachella, one of California’s largest and most influential music festivals, returned this year from April 10–19, drawing in massive crowds and more than 160 performers.
Headliners included major pop stars like Sabrina Carpenter and Justin Bieber.
While Coachella is celebrated for its amazing performances, the festival has also become a global stage for fashion.
What began as a casual, music-focused event in the late 1990s and early 2000s—where people typically wore practical, bohemian-inspired outfits—evolved into a full-scale fashion show.
Early music festival-goers helped define the “free-spirited” desert aesthetic that became part of Coachella’s identity.
The rise of social media dramatically reshaped the idea of Coachella. As influencers gained relevancy, they began setting the tone for festival fashion, shifting the old organic boho look to highly curated, trend-driven designed for online visibility.
This year, one trend stood out: handmade fashion. Crochet tops, hand-beaded dresses and other creative pieces dominated the festival grounds.
Influencers will spend days making their outfits, creating the anticipation of their audience to finally reveal the final product at the festival.
Another standout trend for Coachella 2026 is the return of chunky belts. They’ve become a go-to accessory for adding a new twist to the classic bohemian aesthetic, blending the old nostalgia with a modern, trend-forward twist.
Fringe has also made a comeback for 2026. Whether we saw this hanging from a shirt, shorts or even a statement bag.
The fringe gave an effortless, free-spirited energy, bringing back the original festival experience. This trend felt both nostalgic and fresh.
Pairing a bikini top with different bottoms has been a Coachella staple for several years now, and it is a trend I don’t see going anywhere anytime soon.
With a festival held in a desert, the temperatures can reach triple digits, making a minimal, stylish top practical.
Coachella continues to shape the way of fashion year after year. Each trend reflects how people use style to express themselves.
As the festival evolves, one thing stays the same: Coachella isn’t just about the music—it is also everyone’s individual runway.
