With nearly 200 sign-ups at last semester’s involvement fair, SRU’s Line Dancing Club has quickly become one of the fastest growing organizations on campus. The group offers a space where students of any experience level can participate in line dancing.

The club currently has over 70 active members in its first full semester. It has become its own community on campus after bringing in an impressive amount of student engagement.

“The closest place that teaches line dancing is about an hour away. So, having it here is cool because there’s a lot of students who come from different backgrounds that want to do it,” says club president Olivia Bankosh.

Their newfound success is a testament to the passion and dedication of their members. The group works on different dance numbers to all types of music including pop, rap and R&B, not just country.

“It’s a lot of collaboration. We have a lot of people who take initiative on teaching different dances,” said Bankosh.

Their current presidents, Bankosh and Olivia Rossi, found each other online after discovering they had the same idea to start the club. The two share a background in teaching dance, which drives their passion for line dancing.

With so much support shown by the student body, Bankosh says she and Rossi are interested in pursuing a competitive team in addition to their club sometime in the future.

The club currently meets weekly at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays in the Campus Success Center’s multipurpose room. You can find them on CORE or @sru_linedancingclub on Instagram for more information.
