The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost a tough 3-1 game at no. 9 ranked Kutztown University on Saturday afternoon.

SRU was down early 1-0 but at the start of the second period, The Rock tied the game at 1-1 on a goal scored by senior Megan McKay. For McKay, it was her third goal of the season and the 25th of her career. She is now tied for first place in Rock history in career goals with Marlene Hall (1985-88).

One goal was all The Rock would get however, as Kutztown soon answered back with two more goals in the second period.

SRU was able to put a total of five shots on goal. McKay, sophomore Hannah Downing, senior Renee Rosenblum and freshman Madison Krajewski each tallied shots.

Junior goalkeeper Nicole Bream made 12 saves in 70 minutes played, a career high for Bream.

As a team, Kutztown held advantages over The Rock in total shots (31-5), shots on goal (15-4) and corners (10-3).

The loss for SRU puts its record at 2-2, while Kutztown improves to 3-0 for the year.

Slippery Rock will look to get back on track when they host no. 2 Millersville University at 4 p.m. on Sept. 14 at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
