The Slippery Rock softball team  traveled to Erie, Pa to take on the Gannon University Golden Knights Wednesday afternoon and dropped both games. Gannon’s offense came out firing in game one, and in game two, The Rock lost a close one-run game.

Sophomore Paige Flore (0-2, 7.38 ERA) was on the mound with hopes of taking game one, but Gannon made it tough early. In the first inning, Gannon scored six runs and never looked back. They later would score five runs in the third inning, limiting any chance for The Rock to get back into the game.

Flore pitched only 2.2 innings and gave up 11 runs on 12 hits. Sophomore Brooke Dawson (2-2, 1.33 ERA) relieved Flore in the third inning for 1.1 innings of work.

Offensively, The Rock scored their lone run on an RBI single by sophomore Emily Nagle, scoring senior Megan Maloney.

The final score was 11-1 in five innings.

Dawson took the mound for The Rock and pitched four good innings. Dawson struck out five and gave up three runs, which were all unearned. Junior Carly DeRose (1-1, 3.09 ERA) came in for relief, giving up one run and striking out two.

The Rock’s offense tried to come from behind in the seventh inning when Maloney singled to centerfield, scoring senior Stacey Herzog. Later, senior Katie Kaiser homered, scoring Maloney and pulling The Rock within one run. Unfortunately, The Rock offense was not able to score any more runs and fell 4-3.

With the losses, Slippery Rock drops to 14-15 on the season and 3-5 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play. Up next, The Rock will continue PSAC play on Thursday with a double-header at home against Edinboro University. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30.
