Slippery Rock University was represented by three runners at the Penn State University National Invitational Friday and Saturday.

Graduate student Leah Anne Wirfel ran the women’s’ 5000 meter, and was one of only 3 Division II athletes invited to do so. Wirfel placedĀ 7th in the event, running a time of 17:22.13, the best time of any Division II runner at the invitational.

Sophomore Jeremy Parsons was the only male runner present for The Rock at the invitational. Parsons ran the men’s 5000 meter with a time of 15:17.85, good for 10th in the event.

Senior Jenny Picot wrapped up competition for Slippery Rock on Saturday in the women’s 3000 meter. Picot finished fifth in the event with a time of 9:56.47. That was the best time for any Division II runner participating in the event.

Slippery Rock is very proud of these three outstanding athletes for their representation of the university at a national invitational on such a big stage as Penn State University. The indoor track team will be competing next at the Youngstown State National Invitational, Feb. 5 and 6.
