The Rock Twirlers are preparing to make memories in their upcoming 2026-2027 season, planning to grow new and current members.
Talia Curry, captain of the organization, spoke to The Rocket to discuss insights on how she’s feeling for this season.
The Rock Twirlers are a student-run twirling organization. They perform at events such as basketball games, parades and Homecoming.
They also have two teams: green and white. The green team is the tryout team for performing at events, and the white team is where they teach people how to twirl to be ready for the green team.
Some of their most popular performances include: “men and women’s basketball games” and “pep rallies,” Curry said.
Additionally, Curry explained how this all started.
“The club started 20 years ago with a group of girls who were twirlers who wanted to start a club,” Curry said.
This year is looking at its highest number of members, and Curry was very happy with the turnout for auditions.
“I think this is the most [twirlers] we’ve had since I came here,” the captain said.
Curry is serving this year as the captain of the club. She is a senior here at Slippery Rock University, majoring in art with a concentration in graphic art design.
She’s been a member of the club since her freshmen year, and she even tried out in the spring before attending SRU.
When asked about what motivated Curry to become captain, she shared the following.
“I’ve been twirling since fifth grade, and I thought it would be fun to lead the group. I love twirling and I’ve done it all throughout high school, and I was so excited to learn that they had a twirling club here,” she said. “Being the captain is a fun idea and really challenges me.”
Curry also shared some of her favorite memories with the team.
“I really enjoy just the moments where we laugh during practice. I know that sounds cliché, but it’s fun to get to know the girls,” she said.
