It is currently a month into the new year and a popular tradition for many is to create a New Year’s resolution.

Through classes, activities and work it can be hard to find time to adjust to new routines and add more to schedules.

The Rocket was curious about how SRU students felt on the topic of New Year’s resolutions. Through a recent survey conducted by The Rocket, SRU students shared if they decided to have one.

The students shared their resolutions in the survey.

“My New Year’s resolution was to add more whimsy to my life. Do things that are fun and quirky that I have missed doing,” an SRU student said.

“My New Year’s resolution was to stay consistent in the gym and clean up my diet,” another SRU student said.

Students then answered what makes them want to set a New Year’s resolution.

“I think that every new year is a chance to make good on something you’ve put aside in the past. I believe that it’s kind of like a fresh start for people that have struggled to motivate [themselves],” a student said.

“To make myself a better person,” one student said.

Others shared that it is a tradition or to have a change in their routine.

Students who answered the survey shared if they feel New Year’s resolutions are important to have.

“I think New Year’s resolutions are very important to have because they encourage people to step out of their comfort zones and become better versions of themselves,” a student said.

“I feel like resolutions in general are important to make and change throughout the year. Goal setting is what will improve you as a person and your life,” another student shared.

Others feel resolutions can be strict and some say it can give individuals something to focus on.

Now that it is February, students shared if their resolution has stuck from when they created them.

“I have stuck with it. This is the first year that my resolution has actually become a part of my everyday life,” a student said.

Whether students have resolutions or goals for the new year, there are various ways to have a successful year.

“Having a New Year’s resolution is not something to cry over, but something to work towards,” a student shared.
