Slippery Rock women’s cross country placed fifth at the RMU Colonial Invitational over the weekend.
West Virginia University took first place with 36 points, while Robert Morris finished second with 43 points. Carnegie Mellon and Youngstown State rounded out the top four, with Slippery Rock finishing fifth overall.
Wright State, Davis & Elkins, St. Bonaventure, Frostburg State, Duquesne and Wheeling followed The Rock in the team standings.
Junior Carissa Flynn led Slippery Rock individually, finishing 16th overall with a time of 23:15.99. The Lenox Township, Pa., native enters the season after earning All-Conference honors last year, finishing 17th at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship.
Kayla Hanna was the next Slippery Rock runner to cross the finish line, recording a time of 24:23. Marabelle Thornberry followed closely behind at 24:33, while Caroline Wilson finished at 24:37. The three runners helped give The Rock a strong presence in the latter half of the top 40.
Kaydence Wisner rounded out Slippery Rock’s top five scorers, placing 55th overall with a time of 25:02. Her finish completed the group of five runners whose scores counted toward the team’s fifth-place finish.
Several other Slippery Rock runners also turned in solid performances. Brynleigh Moody, Adi Jackson, Hannah Burgoon, Birtukan Hartman, Kayla Flanigan, Addison Weber and Rylie Teapole all finished within the 25th minute.
Emily Grosch, Annie Woller, Bella Tatar and Lila Miller followed in the 26th minute, with each runner finishing inside the top 100. Claire Wonders, Lexie Wyant, Caitlin Willer and Lizzie Higgins rounded out the rest of the Slippery Rock participants at the invitational.
The RMU Colonial Invitational provided The Rock with an early opportunity to compete against a diverse field as the team continues to build toward the heart of its 2026 season. With several runners returning from last season, Slippery Rock will look to continue improving its team performance as the schedule progresses.
Slippery Rock women’s cross country will return to action Sept. 26 at the Lock Haven Invite.
