Slippery Rock Borough Council convened on March 18 to discuss the sale of 100 S Main St. and public safety concerns.

Sale of 100 S Main St.

The focus of borough council meetings of the past year has finally been resolved, with borough council approving the sale of the vacant lot at 100 S Main St.

The borough announced it would be selling it to Great Living LLC for $255,000 for mixed use purposes. Great Living LLC intends to use the site for a multistory building consisting of businesses and residential units.

Council members expressed relief that they found a buyer for the venue, explaining that the new business has the potential for new tax revenues.

Public Safety

Borough council expressed hope that ongoing projects to replace stormwater, natural gas and water lines will be completed by the end of the year.

Concern about graffiti on a Franklin Street house was addressed as being reported and handled by the court system.

The council announced that a water line on W Cooper Street has been successfully fixed.

The council continued to discuss civil service reform, hoping to negotiate a resolution to bring down costs of hiring qualified individuals for the borough.

Continued discontent

Council members expressed continued discontent on the matter of acquiring adequate funding for new street lights while neighboring municipalities continue to receive funding for beautification purposes.

A concern was brought up by a citizen about next year marking the 250th anniversary of the United States of America and asked how Slippery Rock will hold a celebration with the current infrastructure, noting street lights not being up to date and businesses facades deteriorating among other concerns.
