The Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team continued their strong season with their twelfth straight win on Saturday over Edinboro University, defeating the Fighting Scots with a final score of 88-71.
The win improves The Rock to 14-5 overall and 11-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Division. Edinboro drops to 5-12 and 2-10 in league play.
Slippery Rock led for all but less than two minutes of the game, as the Fighting Scots never seemed to threaten a Rock offense that ranks third in the PSAC in total points with 1,590.
The Rock was led once again by strong performances by preseason All-American Micah Till and John Warren II, who both recorded 25 points in Saturday’s contest, while the former also shot nine for 12 from the field and collected seven rebounds. Till currently leads the PSAC in total rebounds with 193, averaging 10.2 per game.
Junior guard Jared Armstrong was the team’s second leading scorer with 12 points (four for 12 from the field) while also collecting five rebounds.
Redshirt senior Vinny Lasley recorded seven of his own points while leading The Rock in rebounds with 10. Lasley currently ranks eighth in the conference in rebounds with 146 (7.7 per game).
The Rock’s 12-game winning streak currently ranks as the seventh longest in the nation. The streak is also tied for third longest in SRU men’s basketball history, with the previous record dating back to 1989-1990 where the Green and White won 16 games in a row, according to Athletic Communication.
The Rock will travel to Gannon University on Wednesday to take on the Golden Knights in a PSAC-West matchup. The men will return home on Saturday to take on California University (Pa.) before heading out on the road again to take on school rival Indiana University (Pa.) on Feb. 6.
Tipoff for Wednesday’s game is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Hammermill Center in Erie, Pa.
