The Rock Twirlers are preparing for their upcoming 2026-2027 to be filled with growing new and current members and memorable memories.

Talia Curry spoke to The Rocket to discuss her insights on how she’s feeling for this season.

The Rock Twirlers are a student-run twirling organization. They perform at events such as, basketball games, parades, homecoming events.

They also have two teams in which they are green and white. The green team is the tryout team for performing at events, and the white team is where we teach people how to twirl so they can be ready for the green team.

Some of their most popular performances include: “men and women’s basketball games”, and “pep rallies,” Curry said.

Additionally, as to how this club started, “The club started 20 years ago with a group of girls who were twirlers who wanted to start a club and so they did and now it’s going on,” Curry said. Plus this year is looking at its highest number of members.

According to Curry, “I think this is the most we’ve had since I came here.”

Curry is serving this year as the captain of the club. She is a senior here at Slippery Rock University and her major consists of art with a concentration in graphic art design.

She’s been a member of this club since her freshmen year, and she even tried out in the spring before attending here.

When asked about what motivated Curry to become captain “I’ve been twirling since 5th grade, and I thought it would be fun to lead the group. I love twirling and I’ve done it all throughout high school and I was so excited to learn that they had a twirling club here. Being the captain is a fun idea and really challenges me,” Curry said.

Curry was very happy with the turnout for auditions.

“I’m happy because I think this is the most [members] we’ve had since I came here,” Curry said.

Curry also shared some of her favorite memories with the team.

“I really enjoy just the moments where we laugh during practice, I know that sounds cliche but it’s fun to get to know the girls,” Curry said.
