On Tuesday, April 22, the University Program Board (UPB) put on an event to conclude the spring semester and welcome summer.
The well-attended event was called Phineas and Ferb’s Best Summer Ever.
UPB planned this based off the popular Disney show “Phineas and Ferb” and a new season coming to Disney Channel.
“I love the show, as a kid I would always watch it, always listen to the songs; it was one of my favorite shows. So, when we had to plan an end of the year event, I was like, you know what would be awesome? “Phineas and Ferb’s” Best Summer Ever, ’cause I know it goes along with kind of a summer theme that’s coming up, and it’s also something that’s very nostalgic for students,” Savannah Briggs, UPB Director of University Events, said.
Throughout the year, UPB hosts various events for students on campus with different themes and activities.
Students gathered in the quad from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m for the free event, which included snacks, games, crafts and more.
“We [had] some food, we have some Crumbl Cookies and ice cream. Then we also have some nice inflatable games for people to play and some nice crafty things, we have tie dye, we have bracelet making, we have record painting. So, I wanted a little bit of everything, there’s VR games too, something to cater to everybody,” Briggs said.
There were also $400 in raffle prizes. Students could get tickets to be entered to win different summer-themed baskets.
UPB collaborated with multiple clubs and organizations to put this event together, including Black Action Society, Music Therapy Club, Spark Club, Wellness Peer Educators and WSRU-FM, among others. WSRU-FM also played early 2000s Disney Channel music to fit the theme of the event.
The end-of-the-year event is meant to help individuals de-stress from finals approaching and to take some time to relax with friends.
“One of my favorite things is just seeing everyone’s smiling faces, doing everything and just having so much fun,” Briggs said.
