On Thursday during common hour individuals gathered at the Campus Success Center for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new space.
Before the ribbon was cut Vice President for Student Affairs David Wilmes, Chair of the SRU Council of Trustees Angèle Stoebener, President Karen Riley, Associate Vice President, Facilities Planning and Environmental Safety Scott Albert and President of Slippery Rock Student Government Association Ella Bloom spoke.
“The magic that will occur in this space is the nurturing of relationships, is here where our students will engage with the incredibly talented professionals who care for them and ensure their success,” Riley said.
Individuals had the opportunity to explore the offices and tour the new building’s offerings. The center holds various offices and services located in one space for the students. The Campus Success Center has been officially open since the beginning of this semester.
On the first-floor students can find the Office of Disability Services, Mailing Services, Center for Career and Academic Progress and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. The second floor holds the Dean of Students Office, Parking and ID office, Multipurpose Room, Student Health Center, Counseling Center, and Student study center.
“The goal of this building was to bring critical student support services together in one place and so those offices were all highly trafficked offices that were spread around campus and so the goal was to place them in this building so students could get the resources they needed without having to go to multiple buildings,” Christopher Cole, University’s director of auxiliary operations and student services said.
Students are encouraged to visit, enjoy the lounge, socialize with friends and study throughout the day at the Campus Success Center.
“I think it’s a beautiful building, they’ve done a great job with the renovation, they’ve designed in a lot of study space for students, a lot of lounge space, so I think it’ll be a extra quiet place for students in between classes or if they have to visit an office,” Cole said. “There’s also a social space nearby where they can stop and study or meet with friends. I think it’s going to become a secondary hangout for a lot of students.”
Inside the center students will find various places to study including seats facing out to the windows, study cubicles and study rooms.
Students should know when accessing the health center and the counseling center individuals have to enter through the health center doors, located to the right of the main doors. Students cannot get to the health center after entering through the main doors.
