Slippery Rock men’s soccer team opened PSAC West action scoreless with a 2-0 loss to Seton Hill University on Wednesday.
Both teams would struggle to find any sustainable momentum on offense during the first half, with each side recording five shots in the first half, three of which being on goal.
Coming out of the half, the Griffins broke the scoreless tie in the 63rd minute with a goal from Paul Eder, his second of the season.
SRU’s best scoring chance would come shortly thereafter in the 65th minute, when a shot from Jimmy Irani would be denied with a diving save from Seton Hill goalie Jannik Riess.
Rowan Aisenbrey would extend the SHU lead in the 90th minute of the match, adding insurance to the Griffins’ lead. Unfortunately for the White and Green, their efforts would come up short with the Griffins securing the 2-0 victory.
Kaden Reynolds led The Rock with five shots. Behind him, Aashi Pandher recorded three shots, with Gabin Lonjard following with two. Irani and Boele Zwartele each recorded one shot to round out the offensive attack The Rock.
As a team, Seton Hill outshot The Rock 16-12, including a 10-7 advantage on shots on goal for SHU.
Despite the loss, goalkeeper Troy Nine recorded eight saves for The Rock, marking a career-high for the back-to-back Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Nine, along with Patrick Tierney, Dylan Greggs and Fynn Uebele, played the entire 90 minutes of the match.
With the loss, The Rock currently sits at 2-2-3 overall and a 0-1 record amongst the PSAC West.
