Slippery Rock women’s soccer earned a 6-1 victory over Lock Haven University on Sunday afternoon just three days after a season‑opening loss to Fairmont State.
After a quiet opening stretch, The Rock broke through in the 21st minute when freshman midfielder Peyton Los scored her first collegiate goal off of a setup from Lilia Battalini. The momentum carried quickly, when three minutes later, senior Sophia Palermo doubled the lead after beating Lock Haven goalkeeper Devon Mason to make it 2-0.
SRU controlled possession throughout the half, with freshman Summer Hill extending the advantage to 3-0 in the 34th minute on an assist from Jilly Deivert. Abby Paterline added another moments later, sending The Rock into halftime with a commanding 4-0 lead.
Lock Haven found its lone goal in the 57th minute when Maci Shaffer slipped a shot into the net, briefly cutting the deficit to three. Despite this setback, Slippery Rock regained control down the stretch. Chloe Flynn restored the four‑goal cushion in the 78th minute on a feed from Libby Earley, and with under four minutes remaining, Addison Bell capped the scoring to secure the 6-1 final.
Slippery Rock outshot Lock Haven 29-5 overall, including a dominant first half in which The Rock held a 20-1 advantage.
Four of SRU’s six goals came from substitutes, with Flynn, Paterline, Hill and Bell all contributing off the bench. Constable, Price, Battalini, Deivert, Williams and Earley each recorded assists in the victory.
In net, Allman delivered a clean 53:54 of play with two saves before giving way to junior Rosie Willmott Joyce, who finished the final 36:06 and recorded one save.
The Rock improves to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Slippery Rock returns to action Wednesday at home, hosting Edinboro at 4 p.m. at James Egli Field.
