The No. 7 Slippery Rock University women’s lacrosse team made quick work of Edinboro University on Wednesday, rolling to a 24-2 victory at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division play.
The Rock wasted no time taking control, exploding with an 11-0 lead in the opening quarter. With the outcome all but decided early, the starters were pulled midway through the second half as the team improved to 14-0 overall record and 7-0 in conference action. Edinboro fell to 3-11 on the season and remains winless in PSAC play at 0-7.
The win added to an already-impressive run for Slippery Rock, extending multiple streaks, including 24 consecutive regular-season victories, 21 straight wins in PSAC West games, 19 home wins and 24 straight victories over Edinboro in the all-time series.
From start to finish, The Rock controlled every aspect of the game. They outshot Edinboro 51-5, held a 41-3 edge in shots on goal and dominated draw controls 22-6. Slippery Rock was also flawless on clears, going 5-for-5, while limiting Edinboro to just 3 successful clears on 17 attempts.
Offensively, the scoring was spread across the roster. 14 different players found the score sheet, and 12 recorded at least two points. Grace Rotter led the charge with six points (four goals, two assists) despite playing less than two full quarters. She also contributed heavily on defense and in transition, finishing with four caused turnovers, five ground balls and four draw controls.
Several others had strong performances as well. Maddie Blazey (one goal, three assists), Claire Petty (four goals), and Abby Fink (two goals, two assists) each tallied four points. Isabella Buono, Lauren Petty, and Laurelle Surette chipped in three points apiece.
A group of players added two points each, including Cadyn Eismann, Reagan Richeson, Amara Langstaff and Ava Dossier, while Shannon Von Kaenel dished out two assists. Von Kaenel also had a standout performance on draws, collecting a game-high 13 and surpassing 200 career draw controls—becoming just the third player in program history to reach that milestone.
Caitlyn Kelly and Brooke Walters each recorded an assist to round out the scoring.
Defensively, Paige Jenkins led the way with three caused turnovers and three ground balls, while McKenzie Murphy added two caused turnovers.
In goal, Lily Ventresca improved to 13-0, allowing just one goal and making one save in the first half. Ava Drath handled the second half duties, conceding one goal as well.
Edinboro’s scoring came from Natalia Farr and Jacqui Detelich, while goalkeeper Addy Ours made 14 saves in a tough outing.
With the victory, Slippery Rock now holds a two-game lead atop the PSAC West standings. The team will look to keep momentum going Saturday when SRU hosts Indiana (Pa.) at noon. The game will also serve as Senior Day, honoring the program’s six seniors prior to the opening draw.
