The Slippery Rock women’s lacrosse team headed up to Buffalo, New York last Saturday to face off against D’Youville University. The team opened the season strong, winning their first three games. This included wins over No. 5 West Chester University and No. 19 Grand Valley State University. Ranked seventh, The Rock was looking to remain undefeated and keep the momentum going early on.
Out of the gate, SRU put the pressure on, with Grace Rotter knocking down two goals, her seventh and eighth of the season, in the first two minutes.
The senior played the full 60 minutes and tallied five shots on goal, four of those going in the net.
The Rock went on to score five more goals in the first quarter. Reagan Richeson put up three, while Isabella Buono and Abby Fink each had one. A strong offensive performance gave the Saints a difficult time all day.
D’Youville only put up four shot attempts, none of which were on goal.
Buono tallied another goal on the day for SRU to open the second quarter. Rotter followed seconds later.
The Saints broke their scoring drought early in the quarter with a goal by Sam Newlin.
The White and Green then went on a five-goal run to close out the first half, 14-1.
D’Youville had a strong defensive showing in the third quarter. Kaylee Farias made six saves during those 15 minutes.
Offensively, the Saints put up two more goals to attempt to close the gap.
The Rock put up two of their own to maintain their lead.
The final quarter had a slow start, both teams making turnovers and clear attempts, but nothing came of them.
Freshman Madi Leace and Amara Langstaff scored their first goals of the season just minutes apart with less than 10 minutes left in regulation.
D’Youville only managed one more goal, bringing their total to four.
Slippery Rock went out on a high note, closing the game with a goal from Ava Dossier and a 19-4 victory.
The Rock outshot the Saints 47-10 in a dominant offensive showing. SRU also held a 36-6 advantage in shots on goal. A large presence on the net sparked 19 goals scored for the team.
Slippery Rock looks to continue their winning streak at home against Wheeling University on Wednesday, one of their final non-conference games before they begin Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on March 21.
