Gose throws career-best among SRU’s four NCAA marks at Ashland

Slippery Rock men’s indoor track and field earned four NCAA marks on Saturday at the Ashland Last Chance Meet in Ashland, Ohio.

Zach Gose earned a career-best weight throw toss of 19.21 meters in the elite section, placing fifth and marking the first time that the senior has eclipsed the 19.00-meter mark. The Lewisburg, Pa. native’s previous best was an 18.86-meter throw back on Jan. 24. In the unseeded section of the weight throw, sophomore Ryan Oleksy earned a PSAC mark after placing fourth behind a 16.68-meter throw.

Senior Seaton Wozniak earned the lone event win for the White and Green on Saturday behind a 17.74-meter throw in the elite section of the shot put. All four of the top spots were occupied by SRU, with sophomore Connor Brown taking second with a 17.11-meter throw, senior Logan Parker behind him at 16.29 meters, and freshman Tyler Ondrusek at 16.04 meters. Wozniak and Brown’s performances earned them NCAA provisional marks, with Parker and Ondrusek securing PSAC marks.

In the shot put unseeded section, Gose earned a second-place finish with a 15.29-meter throw, followed by his brother, Jacob Gose, in fifth place with a throw of 14.96 meters, and Evan Hall in sixth place at 14.91 meters. All three performances hit the PSAC standard.

Sophomore Logan Gossard secured the remaining NCAA bid for SRU in the pole vault following a second place finish of 4.90 meters. Freshman Christian Crowley came in seventh at 4.60 meters followed by junior Scott Finch in tenth place at 4.45 meters.

In the 60-meter dash, sophomore Benny Whitaker finished sixth with a time of 7.03. Senior Matthew Crow placed ninth at 7.04, followed by sophomore Logan Anderson in 16th at 7.15.

Crow would place second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.20, followed by Austin Kurta in sixth with a time of 8.63, both earning PSAC auto bids. Darien Malawi placed ninth behind a time of 9.10 seconds.

Kyle Rauchut earned a season-best performance of 21.97 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Trey Huha came in sixth with a time of 22.54, followed by Jacob Thompson in 15th with a time of 23.09.

Josiah Vidzro finished third in the 400-meter dash at 49.96 seconds, with Micah Good close behind in fifth at 50.68. Owen Rindler rounded out the group in ninth, finishing with a time of 52.10.

Nate Pitzer placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.39, qualifying for the PSAC meet. Lincoln Bousman and Brady Hoffman followed directly behind in fourth and fifth place, with times of 1:57.64 and 1:57.69 respectively.

In the mile, Anthony Robare placed eighth with a time of 4:26.44. Michael Gautner and Easton Adamczyk rounded out the remainder of the group with tenth and 14th place finishes.

John Juszynski led The Rock in the 3,000-meter run at 8:45.47, placing 11th. Michael Gauntner finished 15th at 8:59.22, followed by Jonah Lindstrom in 20th at 9:16.39.

Jason Alderson earned the lone PSAC mark in the triple jump after placing second with a 14.14 meter jump. Kai Lynch and Dustin Joyce followed with fifth and sixth place finishes.

In the long jump, Joyce led SRU with a sixth-place finish at 6.69 meters, followed closely by Alderson in seventh at 6.66 meters and Lynch in tenth at 6.48.

Turton finished fourth in the high jump at 1.90 meters, followed by Langdon in tenth at 1.86 meters and Anderson in 11th at 1.80.

In total, Slippery Rock secured four NCAA provisional marks and 17 PSAC qualifying marks during the meet.

Slippery Rock men’s track and field will return to action next weekend at Lehigh University for the PSAC Championships.
