Slippery Rock’s lacrosse team opened up their season Wednesday on their home turf with an 18-9 victory against Ashland University. Isabella Buono, Reagan Richeson, Maddie Blazey and Abby Fink all led the charge, tallying three goals apiece.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the first four minutes. The Rock retaliated minutes later, putting up their first goal of the game off a shot in the circle delivered by Richeson.
The White and Green then went on a three-goal run to close out the first quarter with one more in the circle and two from the right wing.
Slippery Rock continued to dominate the field in the second quarter as well. Caitlyn Kelly scored the first goal of the quarter on a free position shot.
Neither team found the back of the net again for several minutes. A combined 9 unsuccessful shots came from SRU and Ashland.
Fink broke the drought for The Rock with a shot from the circle with just over three minutes left.
Buono and Blazey both had shots of their own, ending the second quarter 8-1.
After two more goals from SRU opened the third quarter, the Eagles were able to add to their count with two goals of their own, both from inside the circle.
The White and Green stopped their run when Cadyn Eismann got her first goal of the season with over five minutes left in the quarter.
Ashland put up two more goals, delivered by Rachel Crumbacher and Riley Walstrum, bringing their total up to five.
Blazey continued to put distance in scoring, followed by Grace Rotter, with shots from the left wing and inside the circle.
The Eagles tried to close the gap, closing out the third with a goal and scoring three more times in the fourth. Their efforts were no match for Slippery Rock, who closed out the game with five more goals.
Slippery Rock lacrosse will hit the road for their next game against West Chester University on Saturday.
