Slippery Rock women’s soccer opened their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play with a home game victory, their first one of the season, against Edinboro University last Sunday.

The Rock came strong out of the gate with a shot by Abby Paterline. Edinboro retaliated quickly with a shot attempt of their own that was saved by Leah Allman.

The junior goalkeeper ranks eighth in program history for career saves. She tallied up a total of 76 saves last season.

Just over ten minutes into the first half, Marissa Salisbury was first to score for the White and Green with the assist of Bailey McGee.

That was Salisbury’s first goal in her collegiate career. She tallied up six shots and three shots on goal during the remainder of the game.

The Fighting Scots made three more shots during the rest of the half. SRU doubled that with six shots of their own. Attempts came up empty on both sides, and The Rock closed out the half with the lead.

The second half opened with a shot from Sophia Palermo just a couple of seconds in, followed by three more, all just minutes apart.

Edinboro was able to tie the score with a goal from their player, Jada Cole. The time of the goal was 58:10.

Slippery Rock tried to recover with two shots on goal delivered by Miley Kariotis and Salisbury. Both were blocked by the Fighting Scots’ goalkeeper, Brianna Garey.

Palermo reclaimed the lead for The Rock with the help of Irene Doleno and Salisbury.

Just 15 minutes later, Paterline solidified their lead unassisted.

Edinboro was unable to get another shot off during the remainder of the game, and the White and Green closed it out 3-1.

The Rock will continue their PSAC West slate this Saturday when they take on California University of Pennsylvania.
