
Slippery Rock men’s soccer traveled to Rochester, New York, to take on Roberts Wesleyan University, which ended in a tie. The team’s record is now 2-1-1, with only two regular-season games until they start their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West slate.
The game opened with two shots on goal from The Rock, both blocked by Eric Jewson.
Three more shot attempts came before RWU put points on the board with a shot from their Sebastian Guerrero and an assist from Archie Murphy.
The White and Green attempted to even the score with a shot on goal delivered by Colton Swanson.
This is the grad student’s second season with Slippery Rock after transferring from Lock Haven. Since coming to SRU, he started in the first four games of last season before being sidelined due to an injury. Still, he recorded six points with two goals and two assists.
The first period ended with Roberts Wesleyan taking the lead.
After a foul on SRU, the Redhawks tried to secure their spot in front with a penalty kick. Alvey Kaufman blocked it.
The sophomore goalkeeper has appeared in two games for The Rock, facing 10 goals with three saves, and allowing only one.
Just over 12 minutes into the final period, Patrick Tierney scored for the White and Green with an assist from Swanson.
This was Tierney’s first goal in his Slippery Rock career.
RWU only got off two more shot attempts compared to SRU’s three. All five came up empty, and the game ended in a draw.
The Rock comes back home to take on Shippensburg University this Saturday at James Egli Field. The team also prepares to start their PSAC West play on October 1 against Lock Haven University.
