
The Rock women’s track and field accrued one NCAA provisional mark and nine event wins during their home meet, the John Papa Invitational, last Thursday.
Sarah Corrie brought in the White and Green’s NCAA mark with a 14.50-meter shot put. The throw was good for first place. Corrie was followed by Becca Martin, Olivia Heckman and Autumn Stewart in the event at fourth, seventh and 11th respectively. The trio tallied Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying marks.
SRU enjoyed similar success in the javelin throw, though with no NCAA marks but five top-10 finishes. Eva Tokar’s 41.50-meter throw led the way for a first-place, PSAC auto finish.
Isabella Bartoletti’s 40.40-meter distance marked a close second and another PSAC mark ahead of Madylin Wolter, Hailey Hillman and Dee Davis, rounding out The Rock’s placements in the top 10.
The discus throw brought two more PSAC marks for the White and Green. Sydney Hale and Reese Skiba finished in seventh and eighth with throws of 37.54 meters for the former and 37.46 meters for the latter.
SRU’s remaining first-place finishes were in the long jump, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 5000-meter run, 3000-meter steeplechase, 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay.
Baylee Baluser won the long jump and a PSAC mark at 5.80 meters. Aleks Brozeski and Samantha Gilbert each earned PSAC marks as well after taking third and fourth in the event. Julia Coffaro narrowly missed joining them after finishing in sixth.
The 100-meter dash was a similar story with Gilbert, Regan Johnson and Layne Miller earning PSAC marks in first, third and fifth place, while Lydia Reed was close behind in eighth.
Jianna Long won the 200-meter dash with a 25.02 second, PSAC-qualifying time. Johnson came in just over a tenth of a second behind her in second, also earning the mark.
Ruthie Hughes’ 17:56.58 5000-meter run was good for first place and a PSAC mark. Hannah Burgoon and Morgan Dennis joined Hughes in picking up PSAC marks in the distance events, doing so with first and third place finishes in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Gilbert continued her strong day by placing first in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 46.77 seconds and first in the 4×400-meter relay at 3:56.71. Her teammates were Johnson, Miller and Long for the former event, then Annasophia Stauffer, Reed and Long for the latter.
The Rock’s remaining PSAC auto marks came from Jennifer Cichra in the 800-meter run, Lydia Valeriano in the 1500-meter run and Chaley Youngkin in the 100-meter hurdles.
Rock women’s track and field returns to action on Thursday at the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania before embarking on a busy weekend split between the Paul Kaiser Classic and Ashland Alumni Open.
