SRU track and field closes out Tim Weaver with a combined 15 event wins

Slippery Rock men’s and women’s track and field traveled to West Liberty, W. Va., for the Tim Weaver Invitational on March 28 and 29. The Rock walked away with a total of 35 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying marks.  

Seaton Wozniak led the charge for the men with a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) provisional mark with a toss of 16.93 meters in shot put, earning him first place. Another NCAA mark came from Dan Hyatt winning the pole vault after clearing 4.85 meters. 

Freshman Jianna Long picked up a pair of wins in the 400-meter dash and 200-meter dash for the women’s team. A pair of PSAC marks closed out the top performances on the track, with Jennifer Cichra taking third in the 800-meter dash, and Morgan Dennison taking second in the steeplechase.

The Rock took home three wins out of the four jumping events. Paige Griffith took the top spot with a clearance of 1.62 meters in the high jump. Allie Taylor took first in pole vault with a mark of 3.50 meters. Aleks Brozeski had a 1-2-3 sweep, winning first in the triple jump with 11.26 meters.

Day One 

Day one kicked off with women’s heptathlon 100-meter hurdles, Madelyn Miller finishing second with 16.59. Leighanne Swan finished a few places after with a time of 18.37, and Kate Walasavage and Autumn Wyatt finished 0.68 apart.

Logan Anderson and Zack Duda took first and second place in the men’s decathlon 100 meter with finishes of 11.54 and 11.67 respectively. Duda also took first in the decathlon 400-meter.  

The graduate student led four Rock multi-event men to top five finishes with a winning score of 5,935 points in the decathlon. He earned All-PSAC honors last season after tallying 6,266 points.  

Field events started with the hammer throw, where Zach Gose took first with 54.51 meters. Autumn Stewart placed third with a throw of 46.04 meters. Five other SRU athletes finished in the top ten in both men’s and women’s.

Josh Kingerski took first in the javelin throw, tossing it 0.06 meters farther than Joseph Reed who placed second. Rock women landed three in the top ten for javelin with Eva Tokar leading the charge on a throw of 35.71 meters. Madylin Wolter came in fourth with 33.98 meters, and Olivia Heckman in sixth with 31.14 meters.

The women’s heptathlon high jump and shot put were next. Madelyn Miller landed third in the high jump and second in shot put. Behind her were Swan and Wyatt for high jump, and Wyatt and Walasavage for shot put.

Men’s followed with their long jump and shot put. Jacon Stucchio and Ethan Folmer secured first and second place with 6.59 and 6.54 meters in long jump. Duda placed fourth with a jump of 6.16 meters, but placed first in shot put with a toss of 11.20 meters. Anderson and Folmer came in second and third, throwing only 0.14 meters apart.  

Day one closed out with men’s high jump. Duda tallied another first place with 1.80 meters. Folmer was close behind with 1.74 meters.

Day Two

The White and Green had nine top-ten finishes for the 3000-meter steeplechase between both teams. Morgan Dennison finished in first with a time of 11:26.99. Sydney Pitcovish and Lizzie Higgins were behind her with fourth and eighth place finishes for the women. Jonn Juszynski placed first for The Rock men with a time of 9:33.94. Followed by Troy Hart (9:46.64), Michael Gauntner (9:57.73), Eli Schreiber (10:02.63), and Easton Adamcyzk (10:26.17).  

With Long taking first in the 400-meter dash, Micah Good also grabbed a first-place slot for the men with a time of 49.63.  

Evabell Cox secured second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.65. Darien Malawi also secured second in the same event.  

Discus kicked off the field events for day two. Sydney Hale placed third with a toss of 37.58 meters. Hayley Domagala only two places behind, closely followed by Rebacca Martin for Rock women. Seaton Wozniak led the charge for the men, placing second with 45.47 meters. Zach Gose was right behind him, with Andrew Demko, Logan Parking, and Ryan Oleksy tailing.  

Sarah Corrie and Martin won first and second in shot put for women’s while Wozniak, Logan Parker, and Joshua Goes swept the top three for men.  

Parker reached a personal best with a toss of 16.24 meters. It was also Corrie’s return since last spring. 

Rock women took all but second place in the top five in pole vault, with Allison Taylor, Grace Parrett, Hanna Zeiler, Erica Buchheister, and Addison Lyles. The men swept the top five.  

Miller led two other multi-event athletes to top ten finishes with a fourth place showing in the heptathlon, scoring 3,538 points. Swan landed in seventh with 3,227 and Wyatt in eighth with 3,080.  

Both teams look to the future as they prepare for the first home meet of the season when the White and Green host the Dave Labor Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
