Slippery Rock tennis earned a commanding 6-1 victory against Salem University on Saturday evening at Glenn Creek Tennis Club.

The team was dominant right from the beginning.

The Rock were victorious in five of the six singles flights. Three players from SRU recorded 6-0 sets, helping push themselves back into the win column.

Dari Sakhanova earned a hard-fought win, where she only conceded one game to her opponent. She went on to secure both sets played by winning 11 straight games.

Georgie Lancaster earned both of her two sets 6-3, 6-1.

Lancaster ran into a little trouble in her first set, where she found herself in a 3-3 tie. Similarly to Sakhanova, she quickly found her groove and won nine straight games to win both sets.

SRU started the evening off very hot in the double’s flights. They won all three flights, outscoring the Tigers 18-2.

A very strong performance from Amaia Balaguer Brau and Tina Slovak propelled SRU to the 1-0 lead. The duo has won five straight matches, remaining undefeated on the season.

Balaguer Brau carried her momentum straight into her singles flight. She won both sets, which gave the Rock a 3-1 lead.

Nicole Kempton had the toughest match of the day, going to three sets. Kempton won the third set 6-3, earning her second straight win.

The Tigers narrowly escaped the shutout, earning a point for an opponent retirement by Slovak. Kylie Diaz of Salem was leading the first set 4-3 at the time of the retirement victory.

Slippery Rock will look to start a winning streak on Saturday, when they take on Winona State University in Orlando, Florida.
