The Rock women’s tennis fell to Indiana University (Pa.) on the road on Monday. The team ended up losing 5-2.
At the Maple Street Courts in Indiana, the sophomore duo of Tina Slovak and Dari Sakhanova won their doubles match 6-3. The women defeated IUP’s Hannah Beitat and Veronica Sirci.
Unfortunately for SRU, that is the only doubles win they got in this rivalry matchup.
Nicole Kempton and Amaia Balaguer Brau were defeated in a 6-3 affair by Ming Deewajee and Daniela Ramos on the opposite team. Gabriela del Val del Toro and junior Georgie Lancaster lost to IUP’s Lydia Vlachou and Graydon with a score of 6-3 as well.
Oddly enough all three doubles matches ended up finishing with a score of 6-3.
Freshman Kempton won her matchup against the Crimson Hawks Vlachou before needing to go to a third set. Her fellow teammate Solvak also won her game against Lina Teleshun by getting both set wins.
White and Green senior del Val del Toro fell to the hands of Deewajee. Del Val del Toro lost 6-2 in the first set and 6-4 in the following set.
The matchup of Balaguer Brau and Katy Graydon, went to the third set. Unluckily for The Rock, Balaguer Brau lost in that third set.
IUP’s Ramos defeated Sakhanova in the best-of-three affair. Ramos won 6-3 in the first and the set after she lost 6-1.
Lancaster, from Bromley, England, came up short against Beitat in a two-set exchange.
The meeting against Davis & Elkins College that was supposed to take place on April 2 at 3:30 p.m. has been canceled. The Clarion University matchup that was supposed to take place on April 3 has been moved to a later date of April 12.
The Rock women’s tennis looks to bounce back in the win column on April 6 when they travel to West Virginia to take on the University of Charleston.
