We are living in a time where people consume a lot of different forms of media and one of the most important of these forms is literature. I remember reading that fiction “shows us the truth that we are not ready to see.” I agree with this whole-heartedly. I want to show the world that there are some truths that are hidden away that we are not ready to face as a person.
We know that there are parts of our lives where things get difficult and we just want to get away from what is bothering us. I think that is why fiction is so important. It gives us an ability to leave where we are and go to somewhere that is different or better. I think that fiction gives us a change of scenery when we need it most.
I know that there are times when we feel like the whole world is closing in around us. So, pick up a book and get transported to a new world and get to see that you always have an escape. There is something so important about being able to take time out of your day and be somewhere else. You can read something that brought you joy as a child, and you can go back to that time of innocence and see that the characters that you grew up with never change and you can find happiness there once again.
I know that there is a time when you find yourself reading a story that brought you to a place where you could finally be yourself. I found myself re-reading these books because I wanted to have a sanctuary from the outside world. Reading literature is one of the most important parts of our lives. We become like the characters that we read.
We grow as humans because we are able to see what others go through and things that happen to them that we can sympathize and empathize with. I know that there is a part of our lives that we want to fill with happiness. I think that part of the fabric of our being is because we become like the characters that we read about.
You do not want to go through life with no way to escape if you are having a difficult day.
You want to find a way to that childhood hero that you loved cheering for.
I know that a lot of people find their favorite music before they are teenagers, and I believe we are introduced to our favorite protagonists before we are even ten. I remember reading one book when I was a child and I still re-read it every year because it shaped me as the person that is before you today. I wanted to be just like the main character because he had a lot of qualities that I did not. He was brave and strong. I was not shy, but I did not feel very brave.
This book showed me that bravery was something that you obtain. You just need to take the first step. You are capable of so much. You should not talk down to yourself.
One of my favorite quotes is “be the hero your ten-year-old self would have wanted.”
I found myself reading this book and trying to tell myself that I could do great things. I wanted to be able to express myself and my dreams of becoming what I read about.
I may be biased because I am studying literature at university, but I think that we all have part of us that needs to be told that we are all able to achieve everything that we set our minds to.
Do not be afraid to be who you are. Embrace the changes that come with time.
If you take away anything from this message, I hope that you are proud of who you are and where you come from. People need to realize that we spend a large majority of our lives trying to be people we are not. We need to remember who we are. We need to see that positive influence that shows us that we are capable of anything that we set our minds to.
Become the protagonist of your story and the rest will follow. Trust me.
