A SRU student was flown to the hospital after losing control of her car and crashing near the top of the hill on Harmony Rd a little after 5 p.m. Thursday.

According to the Harrisville Fire Department Captain Brian Grossman, the driver lost control of her vehicle while driving over the hill on Harmony Rd, causing her to hit a stump on the side of the road. The impact caused the car to flip onto its side.

The student was evacuated from her vehicle after the Fire Department cut open the roof of the vehicle. She was transported to a Life Flight helicopter and then flown to a hospital in Pittsburgh to be treated.

Grossman said the fire department that usually handles these kinds of accidents was busy taking care of a construction fire that was happening at the same time. The Harrisville fire department didn’t have the tools, so they needed to borrow some from The Pine County department, located in Grove City.
