'Seeing Faces in Empty Spaces' by senior artists Amanda Lyon is just one of the senior art exhibits at the MGAG Student Exhibitions.

At the end of the semester, four Slippery Rock University senior BFA majors presented their final project exhibitions in Martha Gault Art Gallery in the Maltby Building. Two shows were held, each featuring work from two artists. Both exhibitions ran for four days and celebrated with opening receptions.

The first of the shows presented works by Myah Merhaut, a BFA with concentrations in ceramics and digital media, and Erikka Spaid, a BFA with concentrations in drawing and painting. The exhibit ran from April 22-25 with the opening reception Tuesday, April 23 from 6-8 p.m. and presented Merhaut’s show, titled “Finding Balance” and Spaid’s show “Fragments.”

The second was held April 29 through May 2 with the opening reception on Tuesday, April 30 from 6-8 p.m. Amanda Lyon, a BFA with a concentration in painting and a minor in graphic design, and Chelsey Werner, a BFA with a concentration in metalsmithing, presented their works, titled “Seeing Faces in Empty Spaces” and “Unapologetically Loud,” respectively.

The senior exhibitions were sponsored by the SRU Art Department, the College of Liberal Arts and the Student Government Association. The Martha Gault Art Gallery closed for the year on May 3 but will reopen at the beginning of the Fall 2019 semester. During the academic year, the gallery is open Mondays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more information about the gallery and its upcoming exhibitions, contact gallery director Theresa Antonellis at theresa.antonellis@sru.edu.
