On Wednesday, Sept. 30, MEDLIFE and Tri-Beta partnered together to host a dog toy-making event for students on campus.
The event was hosted in the Vincent Science Center from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Iris Burd, president of MEDLIFE and a member of Tri-Beta, spoke about this event.
Both organizations often work together to host events for the students.
“Tri-Beta is the National Honors Society for Biology, and MEDLIFE is geared towards people who want to go into the medical field,” Burd said.
Last year, both organizations also worked together to host a dog toy-making event.
“I kind of want to continue that trend of doing it because I know it’s a fun event for everyone to come too,” Burd said.
This event is hosted to give students the opportunity to take a break from exams and studying. Students are able to bring old T-shirts and learn how to make dog toys out of them.
Therapy dogs Cricket and Toby were also at the event to provide support and be there for students.
After the event was over, the dog toys were given to the therapy dogs as a way to give back to them for being there as well as pass them on to other therapy dogs.
“I’m kind of just excited to see who attends and just see if people build connections that they didn’t expect to,” Burd said. “…[M]aking dog toys, they can bond over that they have animals at home, and stuff that’s school-related and unrelated to school as well.”
All students were welcome to attend the event even if they were not members of the club.
“I feel like this event definitely just helps people take a step back from school for just two hours,” Burd said. “It’s a nice study break, especially [because] it’s at night so then you get to unwind and be social. You really need that social aspect with other people instead of just isolating yourself studying for multiple hours a day. You need a brain break.”
MEDLIFE and the American Cancer Society at SRU are also partnering together to host another event.
The organizations will be hosting Glass Painting on Oct. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
