The Slippery Rock Student Government Association (SRSGA) has held two meetings this semester as of Sept. 18. Both meetings focused on updating the student body on projects over the summer, inducting and assigning senators for the 2026–2027-year, budget confirmations and open forum.
Updates
President Conner Pavlicho started their Aug. 31 meeting with updates regarding approved proposals from last semester.
- The approved $1.6 million dollar renovations are currently in the design process. Further updates from SRSGA are on the way.
- The Iris Photobooth, a booth specializing in professional headshot and marketing photos, is now available in the Student Success Center.
- The Aebersold Recreation Center (ARC) now has golf simulators available to take out; the take-out form is located at the front deck of the ARC.
New Senator Approval and Position Changes
On Aug. 31, SRSGA inducted three new members to their senate, with an additional seven being inducted at the following Sept. 14 meeting.
Three of the new senators were inducted into the college of health professionals: Brinn Magerko, Shay Dunkle and Chloe Schoentag. Freshman exercise science major Chloe Schoentag, spoke during open forum about why they were interested in joining SRSGA.
“I want to be the voice of the people that don’t have the confidence to come up and say it theirselves, or just be a person that is easier to talk to than rather somebody at a higher position,” Schoentag said.
Two new senators were inducted into the College of Education: freshmen Malique Robinson and Sydney Dunn. Dunn spoke about her relationship to student government associations.
“My mom is the advisor for student movement at Penn West California, and I’ve always kind of sat in the back of her meetings,” Dunn said. “I’ve been able to see kids have a voice where they are living and going to school…I just feel like I live here now and I want to have a voice on what goes on in campus.”
Lillian White, Shay Dunkle Skyler Lingenfelter and Allison Carson were inducted as at-large senators. Freshman Cooper Haywood was inducted as a first-time senator, and political science major Alexnader Diaz was inducted as a transfer senator.
Senator Anna Goberish was inducted as the new parliamentarian for SRSGA. Senator Grassar gave his applause to Goberish, stating he believes she will excel in the parliamentarian role.
Finance
SRSGA approved $1,188.30 for blackout backing screens for the new golf simulator. This came after complaints that the sun made the projections hard to see.
SRSGA approved $950 for SRU Choirs to host their most recent concert series. SRU MMA Club was also granted $1,080 for the Tap Out Cancer Pittsburgh Open.
Due to late budgeting, SRU Club Baseball was awarded a total of $6,200 for conference umpire fees. For similar reasons, men’s club lacrosse was awarded $6,525 for the upcoming season.
New Clubs
SRSGA approved two new clubs on Sep. 14 meeting: Remote Area Medical and Pride in Color.
Remote Area Medical (RAM) is a chapter of a much larger organization focusing on providing clinics to underprivileged communities. Senator Passmore vocalized his support for RAM.
“I believe this club will be very beneficial because it provides SRU health profession students the opportunity to get volunteer hours and clinical hours as well as helping communities,” Passmore said.
Open Forum
Associate history professor at Slippery Rock University, Corrine Gressang, spoke during open forum to promote the upcoming “Affordable College Now!” APSCUF rally.
The rally is focused on advocating a 15% increase in higher education funding within the state of Pennsylvania.
“We are going to be having this rally in Harrisburg. We have meetings signed up with around 70 different senators,” Gressang explained. “We are going to be busing students, for free. No charge, from the police station in Slippery Rock.”
The rally begins at noon in Harrisburg on Sept. 28, on the front steps of the Pennsylvania Capitol. Buses from the Slippery Rock police station will leave at 6:30 am and return at approximately 2:30 pm.
