Slippery Rock football concluded their 2025-26 season with an overtime loss to Bloomsburg University on Saturday, 30-24.
Bloomsburg would strike first on the opening drive, following a three-yard rushing score from Gabe Brower, capping off an 11-play, 72-yard drive.
The Rock would respond with a 13-play drive of their own, including two successful conversions on fourth down. A nine-yard rushing touchdown from JayJay Jordan and extra point from Kevin Roberts knotted the game up at seven apiece.
The Huskies would continue to give the White and Green’s defense trouble, after quarterback KJ Riley again found Brower, this time for a 17-yard receiving touchdown.
An incompletion from DaOne Owens to Jordan on third down ended the scoring dual, following a Kevin Roberts punt that was downed on the Bloomsburg four-yard line.
Slippery Rock’s defense would respond with a much-needed defensive stand of their own, forcing the Huskies to punt for the first time of the game.
After three short completions to John Sabo set up The Rock at midfield, the Huskies defense held Latrell Sutton behind the sticks on third down, with Roberts punting for the second consecutive drive.
A 43-yard punt return from Bloomsburg’s Eli Zimmerman set the Huskies up at the SRU 37-yard line with just six seconds remaining in the half.
On the next play, Riley found Paul Wojciechowski for a 29-yard reception and moved the ball down to the SRU eight-yard line with just one second left on the clock.
Kicker Aaron Johnson’s 21-yard field goal split the uprights as time expired, putting the Huskies up by 17-7 heading into the intermission.
A pair of 19- and 21-yard runs from Jordan set SRU up deep inside Bloomsburg territory to start the second half. Despite the jolt of offense, SRU would be held to a 30-yard field goal from Roberts, keeping the Huskies ahead by a touchdown.
Brower would continue to be a thorn in the SRU defense’s side, after Riley again found the latter for a seven-yard touchdown.
The first turnover of the game would occur when Owens was picked off by Bloomsburg’s Xzavie Pusateri.
Despite the turnover, the Huskies would be unable to capitalize, punting for the second time of the day.
Down big in the fourth quarter, a 69-yard touchdown from Owens to Xander McClure put The Rock right back in the game.
With the ball on the SRU 27-yard line, Bloomsburg would elect to keep the offense on the field. A sack from Jett Franz for a loss of nine yards gave SRU the ball back, looking to tie.
The White and Green would do just that four plays later, when a 55-yard rush from Jordan tied the game up at 24-24 with 7:50 remaining.
SRU’s defense would continue to feed off of the momentum, producing their first three-and-out of the game.
Despite this, The Rock failed to reach the first down marker, punting the ball back to the Huskies.
After another punt from Bloomsburg, Slippery Rock was in prime position to win the game. With the ball on the Huskies 21-yard line and six seconds left, Blake Nicholas’ field goal drifted wide left, sending the game to overtime.
A sack on fourth down turned the ball over to the Huskies, with any points winning the game. A one-yard rushing touchdown from Riley secured the win for Bloomsburg, handing SRU their fourth loss of the season.
With the loss, Slippery Rock’s season comes to an end. This is The Rock’s first season to not make playoffs since 2017.
