As part of its mission to support freedom of speech and civil discourse on campus, Turning Point USA at Slippery Rock hosts speakers who address some of our nation’s most important and timely issues.
On April 9, our club hosted Paige Roux, a nationally recognized expert on the 2nd Amendment and a trained firearms instructor. Both students and area residents were in attendance as she provided information about how to be a responsible gun owner as well as an educated purchaser and traveler with your firearms.
The audience asked great questions and shared different opinions. Overall, it was a great event and a productive exchange of ideas.
Our next event will be packed with big names from the area.
“Inside the Trump Assassination Attempt Panel” will explore what happened behind the scenes on the tragic day of July 13 in Butler, right down the road from our campus.
One of our panelist speakers will be Slippery Rock Mayor Jondavid Longo, who spoke at the Trump rally briefly before President Trump. He also spoke to the president before taking the stage. The mayor is also a former United States Marine.
Our second panel member is Rico Elmore, an active-duty member of the United States Air Force from Beaver County. He also spoke at the rally; however, he is better known for his contributions after the shooting took place. Rico jumped into action after the shots rang out over the farm grounds and tried to help Corey Comperatore. Rico performed CPR on him as they were waiting for the first responders to arrive.
Our last speaker on the panel is Salena Zito, a journalist who has worked for the New York Post, the Washington Examiner, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and others.
She was in the front row at the rally on July 13 and had the honor of being the first to interview Trump in private after the assassination attempt. Zito also wrote “Butler: The Untold Story of the Near Assassination of Donald Trump and the Fight for America’s Heartland.” This is her account of the fateful day in Butler and her interview with the president afterward.
Please join us for the panel in the Smith Student Center Theatre Wednesday, April 30, at 7 p.m. Tickets are free at sru.universitytickets.com.
The time for the truth behind this tragic day when a man lost his life protecting his family has come. These speakers are going to give a great insight into what truly happened and maybe get us one step closer to that truth.
