Thursday, March 27, The Honors English Society, Sigma Tau Delta, will be hosting their Spring 2025 Poetry Night.

The event will be held at Rooster’s Coffee Bar from 4:30-6 p.m. This is the group’s third year of hosting this event.

Poetry Night gives students the opportunity to read poems they wrote out loud to an audience and a supportive community. Students are welcome to just listen to poems and support readers if they would like.

This semester the organization hopes to try something new, which will be called “Not just a Poetry Night.”

Individuals will still have the opportunity to read their work, but Angelina Giacomazza, President of Sigma Tau Delta, wants to try something new to get more students involved.

“We kind of rebranded it as “not just” a poetry night” because…we’re kind of trying to branch out and see if we can get some of the performing arts students, if they want to perform a piece whether it’s music or acting or whatever, or writing.  So, we’re really just trying to branch out and expand something that has been a tradition for Sigma Tau Delta,” Giacomazza said.

Giacomazza hopes to get other majors and art forms involved to grow the community and give individuals the space to share what they enjoy.

“It’s really just meant to be a space where people get to share the art that they create, whatever form that takes,” Giacomazza said.

The organization holds a Poetry night each semester. The event is open for any students to present their work.

If students are interested in attending, they can RSVP on CORE. Individuals who would like to read their work can email Giacomazza at amg1065@sru.edu for approval.

If individuals do not get a chance to submit their piece prior to the event, they can still get it approved there.

“It’s so amazing to see how a comfortable and welcoming space can really ease the nerves of someone who’s sharing something that could be a very personal account or personal narrative,” Giacomazza said. “Everyone there always gives us their absolute undivided attention. So, it never feels like you’re being rushed off or anything. It’s truly a very welcoming space where we all just want to share our creations.”
