It can be tricky to adjust to a new semester with cold weather, work and busy schedules.
The Rocket wanted to know how SRU students adjust and prepare for the spring semester.
Through a recent survey conducted by The Rocket, Students shared their thoughts on how the new semester has been going.
Most students who answered the survey said that the semester is going “well.” Though some shared that the recent snowstorm made the start of the semester a little difficult.
“Having the first two weeks being crazy with the cancellations and later than the usual start has really messed me up. I was stuck in my apartment for days because I couldn’t get my car moved out. Half of my professors had to put classes online due to [the storm] and the students not being able to get to the school,” an SRU student said.
“Since I’m in online classes and we had that massive snow storm, I found it difficult surprisingly to actually get work done even though I had a lot of free time on my hands,” another SRU student said.
Students shared how they prepare for the spring semester.
Some students said they do not prepare, while others look at due dates, assignments and brain games.
“I was VERY prepared for the spring semester. By spring I have an established plan to stay on track with school work,” an SRU student said.
“Apart from changing my work schedule to fit my classes, I don’t change anything else. Maybe buy some desk supplies but that’s all,” another student said.
Some ways students keep motivated during the semester is getting a degree and trying to keep a good GPA.
“Knowing that I only have 4 semesters after this and I’ll be doing something I’ve worked hard to do,” an SRU student said in response to what motivates them.
“Seeing my friends and family from time to time, having good teachers and classmates, homework that makes sense to the career I want, and a hobby or a sport (running),” another SRU student said.
Students shared what they are most looking forward to in the spring semester.
“I look forward to being active in my clubs,” a SRU student said.
“Wrapping it up and finally finishing my graduate program this summer,” another student shared.
Others shared they are most looking forward to spring break and summer.
Most students shared that they do not find it hard to keep motivated in the cold weather.
“Cold weather makes me more driven to hit the books since I can’t be outside enjoying the sun,” an SRU student said.
Though, a few students shared that they do find it hard to stay motivated in this weather.
“Absolutely, I hate always being cooped up during the winter,” one student said.
Students shared their advice for the spring semester.
“Stay warm and make sure you strike a healthy balance for your mental health with plenty of room to enjoy the fun aspect of college while also doing well in classes,” was one student’s advice.
