This weekend, the SRU Theater Department will be performing the musical Into the Woods

Individuals will have the opportunity to see the show Nov. 21, 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 23 at 2 p.m.

The show is directed by Aaron Galligan-Stierle, a professor of theater at SRU.

Sophia Condit, a senior BFA Musical Theater major with a minor in dance performance, discussed working on this production.

Condit is the associate director and Jack Lloyd is the choreographer for this production.

“I get to direct select scenes and act as second-in-command to our director, Aaron Galligan-Stierle,” Condit said.

Condit discussed what Into the Woods is about.

“Into the Woods explores the dark side of fairy tales and the consequences of a selfishly pursued ‘happy ever after.’ The primary focuses of Into the Woods are parent-child relationships, moral decay, the promise of perfect love, tolerance and community. ‘Dreams come true, not free.’Condit said.

Tickets for the show are $12 for students and $15 for general admission.

“This show always reminds me of the importance of community and acceptance of others who seem different than you. We are all humans with big hearts on the inside, and I hope this show inspires Slippery Rock students to continue to connect with their community,” Condit said.

Condit shared her favorite part of working on this show.

“My favorite part of working on this production is seeing the cast grow from the first day of rehearsal to now. They are all so talented, and I’m proud to say we have a really stellar show,” Condit said.

The performance will take place in Miller Auditorium on campus. Individuals can purchase tickets at  sru.universitytickets.com.

“I am SO EXCITED for everyone to see the work of these incredibly talented actors, musicians and technicians. Our team has put in countless hours of work, and I cannot wait for the community to see this show,” Condit said.
