Two SRU students are working to bring a new club called The Self-Love Society to campus this semester.
The new organization will focus on helping individuals grow confidence and love within themselves.
Rida Ansari and Elowyn Crescenzi are sophomore psychology majors using what they have learned in their classes to create the club.
“We both are very passionate about self-growth, self-improvement and loving ourselves…I hear it in some of my friends when they talk to me…what they think about themselves,” Crescenzi said.
The students started the club to help individuals gain the confidence to accomplish their goals and dreams.
The club’s meetings will be conversational. Crescenzi and Ansari will come up with ideas and activities to do with the group. During the first meeting, the two students have plans to introduce the club and have individuals write letters to their future selves.
The purpose of these letters is for students to be able to set goals for both the semester and their self-love journeys.
“Then at the end of maybe this semester, we’ll give them back their letters. It’s like, how much did you grow? Did you accomplish what you felt you wanted to accomplish,” Crescenzi said.
The club wants to hold various events on campus throughout the semester. They also plan to create vision and blessing boards of what students are grateful for.
“Being grateful is really the best way to get abundance in your life,” Ansari said. “We also want to do journaling workshops…we’ll be doing random events throughout the semester as well.”
“We want it to be a space where if people need an extra pat on the back, or need extra support, they can come here and get positive energy and uplifted for a night…maybe give them ideas to remind [them] to be kind to themselves,” Crescenzi said.
The club is still waiting on approval, but plans to hold meetings every other Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at an undetermined location.
Students who want to find more information on the Self-Love Society can follow the Instagram account, @sru_selflovesociety, for updates.
“I would love to see people start to love themselves and grow confidence in themselves, because the more people that we have in the world loving themselves…the better the world is going to be,” Ansari said.
“I second that,” Crescenzi said. “One of my biggest goals in life is just to touch the lives of the people around me. I really want to bring joy and bring love to people’s lives. I think that love is something that should be at the center of your life, and it should be valued and appreciated way more than it is.”
