The Rocket

Chris Gordon
I'm big enough to admit that there's a lot I don't know.  I'm never sure how "definitely" is spelled, though each time I believe I'll finally get it right, I don't know why I prefer Nike to Adidas, other than my fascination with the Greek gods and, despite having taken numerous biology classes, I still cannot explain the process of photosynthesis.  This is what makes journalism special to me; it's a way of finding things out.

When I first began contributing to The Rocket in September of 2014, I was instantly surprised by how little I knew about my campus community; it's easy to settle into a bubble when you're at a "medium-sized" university like ours.  However, going to events, making calls and rubbing shoulders with those behind Slippery Rock's wheel really keeps you in-touch with your school, especially when these things result in a great story.  The "Eh, why not?" decision to contribute broke me out of that bubble and now, as a senior, I'm more in love with this town than ever before.

While my major is public relations and my minor is political science, one of the many things I'd like to do "when I grow up" is contribute to a newspaper or magazine.  I've been an avid reader of several for some time now, so I suppose I have a feel for that direction.  You never know where life will carry you, though.

One thing I do know is that I'm able to learn and become a valuable member of whatever team  I choose to play for.  Writing for news is truly a process of discovery and I'm excited to dig deep, find answers and share with you what I've learned.  I'm proud to join The Rocket staff for the 2015-2016 academic year.
