No. 22 The Rock took down No. 14 Seton Hill 16-11 on Wednesday evening at DSG Stadium.
Slippery Rock rallied behind Eryn Little who had four goals. The senior is on a great pace this year, sitting at eight goals, which is already higher than last year’s total.
Little scored a goal about midway through the second quarter, giving the White and Green a 5-4 lead. The team did not look back from that point on.
Abby Fink and Reagan Richeson both scored three of their own goals today as well.
Fink has notched 18 goals and 25 points, while Richeson has recorded 26 goals and 31 points this season.
The Griffins started off the scoring early, scoring in the first minute of the game to start off 1-0.
Everything went quiet after that first goal, until Seton Hill struck again halfway through the first quarter to extend their lead to 2-0.
Richeson was the first to put The Rock on the board, cutting the lead in half.
Both teams went back and forth in the first quarter, with the White and Green finishing on top 4-3.
After Seton Hill tied the game 4-4 early in the second, Slippery Rock went on a major run and regained the lead, making it 7-4.
Fink scored a huge goal, putting it in the net with just 24 seconds remaining in the first half. The official halftime score ended 9-5 with The Rock on top.
Isabella Buono and Richeson both scored early in the third, taking a commanding 11-5 lead.
However, Slippery Rock ran into some penalty trouble, suffering four green cards and one yellow card throughout the third quarter. This allowed the Griffins to gnaw their way back into the game, making it 11-8 at one point.
Little attempted to stop the bleeding late in the third and early in the fourth, slipping two goals by.
Although, Seton Hill was not phased, continuing to fight back, now trailing 13-11 with approximately five minutes remaining in the game.
Slippery Rock eventually got their groove back, finishing out the game with three more goals to their name, bringing the game to the 16-11 final.
With the victory, Slippery Rock now owns sole possession of the top spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West division. They will travel to Lock Haven on Saturday for another conference matchup, looking to extend their lead in the standings.
