
The Rock traveled to Ashland University for day one of a two-day meet, the Jud Logan Light Giver Invitational, hosted at the Niss Athletic Center on Friday.
The men had nine events on Friday. The events were the 4000 distance medley relay, 200-yard dash, 5000-yard run, 400-yard dash, weight throw, pole vault and triple jump.
In the weight throw, Ryan Oleksy took first place for The Rock with a 17.82 meter throw, Jeremiah Newsom from Kent State followed with a 17.26 meter throw, and the White and Green took third as well with Zach Gose’s 17.13 meter throw.
Joshua Rohland earned 11th place in the event and joined Oleksy and Gose with Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) auto marks.
The unseeded pole vault was a successful event for SRU as Logan Gossard finished first with 4.75 meter vault. In third place was The Rock’s Brandon Schnieder with a 4.6 meter vault. Both were good for PSAC marks as well as Cullen Birkes eighth-place finish.
In the triple jump, Tiffin University’s Myles Sams took the crown with a 15.08m jump, followed by Luke Rader from Shawnee State University who posted a 13.49 meter jump. Slippery Rock took third again with Jason Alderson’s 13.47 meter jump. Ian James was just behind in fourth at 13.31 meters.
In the 200-meter dash, AJ Virata had a 22.24 second finish which was good for 10th and a PSAC mark.
In the 5000-meter run, two of the White and Green placed within the top 10. Eli Schreiber earned sixth with a 15:22.42 time and John Juszynski had a 15:24.89 time which was good for 8th place. The former earned a PSAC mark as well.
The Rock finished their time at the Jud Logan Light Giver invitational on Saturday.
