There is something truly special about going to the movies and seeing your favorite actors and actresses. The world has seen all kinds of movies that all capture the imagination. The following are the films that I feel that have had the most impact on me. I believe everyone should see these films before they turn 50. These films have psychological benefits as well as emotional. I hope that you consider watching at least one of them. There are so many films out in the world, and every day, there are new ones being produced. It was challenging to come up with five, but I think that this list captures a little bit of everything.
5. A Beautiful Mind (2001)
Enter the world of renowned mathematician and educator John Forbes Nash. This film presents an intimate look at the price some people pay for their journey as a person who suffers from mental illness and an interesting way to watch how one man views his life as he makes his decisions about his future. Thought-provoking and captivating at the same time, this is a must-see for people who are interested in psychology or psychiatry.
4. Clue (1985)
A whodunit with the best people in show business and a funny, then somewhat serious, glimpse into the minds of many familiar faces, this film may leave you with more questions than answers. All of the cast work so well off of each other. This is a well-thought out movie that boasts three separate endings. You must see all three to understand what just happened in about an hour and a half and you won’t be able to guess who did it.
3. Magic (1978)
Sir Anthony Hopkins and ventriloquism. A ventriloquist dummy made to look just like him. An affair with a former high school sweetheart. Then the voices start. A film that makes you ask yourself if you are insane, or if you are just hearing things. An amazing look into the mind of a human being and asking yourself if they made the right decisions or if they have something that they are hiding.
2. The Elephant Man (1980)
Another film starring Hopkins; his kindness and graciousness is on full display in this film. Sir John Hurt is delightful as the one man that just wanted one thing in his entire life: to be treated like a human being. Definitely one to watch with Kleenex nearby because there are many sad scenes and overall sad themes that are seen throughout.
1. Dead Poets Society (1989)
A very in-depth look at the lives of students at a boarding school. Sometimes, you meet a teacher that changes the way that you view your entire life. At this age, you might find love. This teacher shows you why we love and how to be the best person you can be. This film shares the ups and downs of being in a world where some of our dreams come true and some don’t.
