Dear SRU Community:
During the first week of classes, Executive Orders from President Trump attacked the transgender and nonbinary communities. In addition, President Trump attacked Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) across the federal government and educational institutions. As members of the SRU President’s Commission on Gender Identity, Expression, and Sexual Orientation (GIESO), we are here to support any member of the SRU community that has felt attacked and invalidated due to these orders. Everyone is welcomed and supported at SRU regardless of sexual orientation, sex, gender identity and expression, race, and immigration status. SRU has resources that can support you during this difficult time. The Office for Inclusive Excellence and the Pride and Women’s Center in the Smith Student Center (2nd floor suite) provide excellent support as well as Safe Zone members and student organizations such as RockOut, TranAction, Black Action Society, and SOL just to list a few. Safe Zone members display a placard on their office door which indicates the occupant is welcoming to members of the LGBTQIA community. In addition, the Counseling Center and Student Support, which are located in the Campus Success Center, are there for you to access if needed. We are saddened by the attacks on these communities and stand with you to resist these assaults. If you are interested in learning more about GIESO you can connect to the Office of Campus Climate and Culture in Old Main (2nd floor).
In Solidarity,
The President’s Commission on GIESO
