SRSGA met formally last Monday at 5.p.m. in the Smith Student Center Theater for finance approvals, student organization recognition and the approval of new Senators.

Police Chief Sharkey discusses ICE on campus

At the beginning of the meeting, Slippery Rock University Chief of Police Kevin Sharkey dismissed rumors that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was on Slippery Rock University’s campus as false.

“If law enforcement agencies are on campus, they usually check in with us, and we go with them because we know the campus and where to send them to.” Sharkey said.

Several Senators asked Sharkey questions about ICE, including if the possibility of undercover agents being on campus. Police Chief Starkey affirmed that even if agents were out of uniform, they would still need to check in with police.

When asked about the potential of hosting an event to inform students of their rights, Police Chief Starkey said he was open to the idea.

“When they have warrants and stuff, you have the right to have that copied, read it, look over it, if its signed by a judge and everything to make sure its legit.” Sharkey said.
