New funding for clubs and more organizations approved

SRSGA met formally on Monday, February 24 at 5 p.m. in the Smith Student Center to approve new organizations, funding requests, and affirm their support for diversity initiatives. 

Diversity Proclamation

The meeting began with SRSGA President Ella Bloom reading a proclamation written by Vice President of DEIB, Mercedes Nearhood, urging students, faculty, staff, and administration “to actively support, uplift, and stand in solidarity with students from marginalized communities, ensuring that every individual is valued and respected”. 

“It is your job as a student leader to remind the students of that. To say, ‘we are here for you, we are here to support you, and we are here to advocate for you,’” said President Bloom. 

New Organizations on Campus

Several new groups were formally approved as official student organizations, all encapsulating different aspects of campus life. 

The following organizations were approved as recognized student organizations: Anime Club, Grounded Rock Worship, Lens and Latitude, Men’s Ice Hockey Team, Self Love Society, ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) Advocates. 

Funding Requests Approved

SRSGA’s financial report was unanimously approved as read, totaling $22,256.43. The financial report encompasses initiative requests and conference grants for various organizations on campus. 

New initiative requests are as follows: Competitive Club Cheer, $944.49; English Equestrian Club, $500; Women’s Club Volleyball, $7,200; Men’s Club Volleyball, $7,200; Club Golf, $5,236.94. 

New conference grants are as follows: Feminist Majority Leadership Alliances, $245; Gamma Iota Sigma, $50; Music Therapy, $480; Student Occupational Therapy Association, $500.

Miscellaneous 

The SRSGA Election timeline for Spring 2025 was unanimously approved, with applications for all SRSGA positions currently open. Prospective applicants do not have to be in SRSGA currently to apply. Applications close on March 14, and can be found on the CORE website.

Andrei Pagnotta is a junior, majoring in Political Science with a concentration in Law and Politics, as well as an Acting Minor. Andrei joined The Rocket in the fall of 2024 as an Assistant News Editor and is now the News Editor. Andrei specializes in writing about local politics and various happenings around Slippery Rock. Aside from The Rocket, Andrei is the Treasurer and an active member of the Debate Society. After graduating, Andrei plans to attend law school to become an attorney representing labor unions.
