Slippery Rock Borough Council convened Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Slippery Rock Borough Building to discuss website updates, grants and Giant Eagle seeking to change their liquor license.
Website
The borough council website is still under maintenance with the temporary website up for the time being. The new concept website was previewed with full ADA compliance, according to Borough Manager Christian Laskey.
One feature on the website includes automated news updates where those signed up on the website will receive news items, agendas and minutes as they are posted. Another major feature is a combined calendar with university and borough wide events.
No date was given for its completion, but the website concept is functional. It was demonstrated at the meeting and is expected to launch soon.
Giant Eagle liquor license change
Giant Eagle’s legal counsel approached the borough to revisit a resolution passed in 2010.
In 2010, Giant Eagle approached the borough for an intermunicipal transfer for an eating place liquor license. They are now looking to convert their eating place license to a restaurant license.
The initial eating place license allows malt and brewed beverages while the restaurant license allows for the addition of wine and readymade cocktails.
Therefore, Giant Eagle asked the borough to pass 2010-378B to remove articles stipulating which license Giant Eagle was seeking in the original intermunicipal transfer.
Resolution 2010-378B was passed unanimously and the matter is now under the discretion of the Liquor Control Board as to whether Giant Eagle receives their restaurant license or not.
Grants and miscellaneous
The Community Development Block Grant will be used for a new stormwater management system where a map of the proposed system was shown featuring increased capacity for rainfall of roughly 40%. The system will be built by Gateway Engineering.
A Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency granted funding for police activities and was previously spent on body cameras and dash cameras, among other items. There is currently $16,000 left in the grant which will be used to update additional police technology.
The Department of Community Development grant is still pending but expected to be posted in March and the Local Share Account grant is expected to be announced next November.
The borough council is still seeking options to record or livestream meetings for purposes of transparency.
