Slippery Rock Borough Council convened on February 4 at 7 p.m. for regular business.
Borough Rejects NexTier Bank Letter
Slippery Rock Borough Council unanimously rejected a letter of intent to exchange property from NexTier Bank. In the letter, NexTier expressed that they would like to move the bank from its current location on Main St. to a new building in the vacant lot at the intersection of Main and New Castle streets.
The borough had previously held debates and discussion about the topic over the past several meetings.
“We mentioned that the three big reasons that we think this isn’t going to work for us…issues with parking, the police and the growth of what they’re doing, and the renovations and expense of those sorts of things with that property over there,” Council Vice President John Hicks said.
Stormwater Mitigation
Slippery Rock Borough has qualified for the Community Development Block Grant, which the borough has decided they will use for a stormwater project.
“We need to bring in outside contractors. Thankfully, this kind of fell in our lap,” Borough Manager Christian Laskey said, referring to the grant money.
The borough will be going through the steps necessary to start the project, with more resolutions on the matter to come.
Audio Transparency
Borough Manager Laskey discussed the option of recording meetings to allow for more efficient transparency. Currently, meeting minutes must be approved before being released, which can take several weeks. Borough Council is considering installing microphones in order to record the meeting and upload it the next morning for the public to listen to.
“It would provide more transparency and more collaboration with residents,” Laskey said.
The borough is still researching the different audio technology products in order to find a cost-effective solution.
