The Rocket Staff Positions and Responsibilities:

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for:
–          Managing day-to-day operations
–          Running weekly budget meetings, layout and design meetings and production sessions
–          Compiling and overseeing a yearly operating budget, meeting with SGA and submitting the budget to the Cooperative Activities Office
–          Overseeing all staff and ensuring duties and responsibilities are being met
–          Designing the layout of the opinion section each week
–          Overseeing contributors for the opinion section and establishing “Our View” on a weekly basis
–          Serving as final copyeditor for all material from The Rocket
–          Serving as a liaison for The Rocket to the printing press and university community

The News Editor is responsible for:
–          Determining, assigning and editing stories for the news section
–           Designing for the layout of the news section each week, including photo selection
–          Participating in budget meetings and layout and design meetings each week
–          Attending budget meetings and Thursday production sessions each week

The Assistant News Editor is responsible for:  
–          Assisting the news editor in meeting their duties and responsibilities
–          Compiling the police blotter each week
–          Serving as The Rocket’s liaison to the Student Government Association and reports on their formal meetings
–          Attending budget meetings and Thursday production sessions each week

The Campus Life Editor is responsible for:
–          Determining, assigning and editing stories for the campus life section
–           Designing the layout of the campus life section each week, including photo selection
–          Participating budget meetings and layout and design meetings each week
–          Attending budget meetings and Thursday production sessions each week

The Assistant Campus Life Editor is responsible for:
–          Assisting the campus life editor in meeting their duties and responsibilities
–          Attending budget meetings and Thursday production sessions each week

The Sports Editor is responsible for:
–          Determining, assigning and editing stories for the sports section
–          Designing the layout of the sports section each week, including photo selection
–          Participating in budget meetings and layout and design meetings each week
–          Attending budget meetings and Thursday production sessions each week

The Assistant Sports Editor is responsible for:
–          Assisting the sports editor in meeting their duties and responsibilities
–          Maintaining the digital scoreboard on The Rocket’s website
–          Attending budget meetings and Thursday production sessions each week

The Photo Editor is responsible for:
–          Ensuring photo coverage for all sections of The Rocket
–          Creating photo slideshows on The Rocket’s website, when appropriate
–          Attending budget meetings and Thursday production sessions each week

The Assistant Photo Editor is responsible for:
–          Assisting the photo editor in meeting their duties and responsibilities
–          Creating the “Our View” editorial graphic each week
–          Attending budget meetings and Thursday production sessions each week

The Copy/Web Editor is responsible for:
–          Ensuring that all stories, headlines and cutlines follow the latest guidelines as set forth by the Associated Press Style Guide
–          Properly fact checking all content
–          Copyediting content on Thursdays during production sessions
–          Updating articles on the website on Thursday night, following production of the paper
–          Creating the digital edition of the paper Thursday nights
–          Establishing social media presence following Thursday production meetings

The Assistant Copy/Web Editor is responsible for:
–          Managing and general upkeep of The Rocket’s website
–          Maintaining The Rocket’s social media presence throughout the week and increasing web traffic
–          Ensuring that all stories, headlines and cutlines follow the latest guidelines as set forth by the Associated Press Style Guide online
–          Properly fact checking all content
–          Assisting the Copy/Web Editor as needed
–          Contributing content for the website weekly

The Multimedia Editor is responsible for:
–          Determining, assigning and editing multimedia projects
–          Producing at least four videos over a two week period
–          Collecting responses, information and photos for the weekly “In The Quad” segment of The Rocket
–          Attending budget meetings each week

The Advertising Manager is responsible for:
–          Acquiring advertisers from both on-campus and off-campus groups
–          Developing and negotiating contracts with clients
–          Planning and designing advertising campaigns when necessary
–          Serving as a contact person for classified advertisements, and all advertising inquiries
–          Determining advertising rates
–          Coordinating advertisement pages for the print edition of the paper
–          Creating all in-house advertisements for The Rocket
–          Submitting payment forms and working with Cooperative Activities in advertising billing matters
