The Slippery Rock University’s Student Government Association (SRSGA) Board of Directors held its first meeting of the 2026-27 academic year Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. in SSC 323. The meeting was open to all students in person and via Zoom.

The meeting included a review of the auditor’s report, a financial overview of the organization, a university update from SRU President Karen Riley, discussion of open seats, certification of the slate of officers and discussion of personnel issues.

Riley summarized her State of the University address, detailing the university’s performance, financial planning and new initiatives and highlighting the record for first-time, full-time student enrollment.

Financial

Executive Director Wendy Leitera reviewed the 2026 SRSGA Audit Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026.

According to the audit, the SRSGA generated $5.68 million in revenue and reported $5.4 million in expenses, resulting in a $340,335 surplus for the year. The organization ended the fiscal year with $16.8 million in net assets and $18.2 million in total assets.

Student activity fees were the SRSGA’s largest revenue source. SRU collected and remitted $2.53 million in student activity fees during the 2025-26 fiscal year. Additional revenue came from bookstore operations, investment income and university programs.

The audit also showed that SRSGA held $7.23 million in investments and over $6.3 million in cash and cash equivalents at year-end. $4.35 million in net assets have been designated for student organization funding, campus enhancements, bookstore initiatives and facility replacement projects.

New Initiatives

Thomas Freilino highlighted new initiatives for the 2026-27 academic year, including the Clinton Concert series featuring the Slippery Rock University Concert Choir and Chamber Singers and the expansion of club basketball.

“They had so many people try out that they actually were able to form a second team, so there’s team one and team two now…which I think is just really cool,” Freilino said.

New Business

Lindsay Rankin and Anna Goberish were confirmed as voting directors.

The SRSGA recognized 2025-26 SRSGA Board of Directors Chair Robert Waterson and Secretary Gavin Wade.

The SRSGA approved the Human Resource Committee’s salary increase recommendations of 3.5% for full-time SGA Bookstore employees and Child Care Center full-time head teachers and part-time aides, and 5% for full-time Cooperative Activities employees. The increases are retroactive to Sept. 1.
